Installation of Car Stereo

February 8, 2013

Follow these basic steps to install your new car stereo but remember that your audio unit might be different and might require some additional work. Boss BV7320 for example comes with the installation manual, so refer to it if you feel confused, these are just general guidelines to use:

  1. Before you do the installation, you have to disconnect your negative battery cable first. This is to make sure that your new car stereo doesn’t get damaged.

    2. Have your trim tools ready so you can remove safely all the trim pieces from the car dash. As you remove these trims, you can now expose the original car stereo. Usually, your kit has all necessary instructions on how to remove them safely so be careful to follow the steps. It is always imperative to keep the trims pieces and fasteners at a spot that you can easily see and doesn’t get in the way. Keep them organized at all times.

    3. Gently remove your old car stereo. The tool you will need for this is the DIN tool or a tool specified for your car type. Locate the holes where you can place the tools into and then insert them. Once they are in place, gently pull the original car stereo out. When old car stereo begins to slide out, hold the sides of the stereo and pull it wholly. Remove all connections that lead to it.

    4. Start installing your In-Dash Receiver kit. When doing so, it is advisable to read carefully the instructions included in the kit to get a professional kind of installation. An In-Dash Receiver Kit that has been installed correctly must be aligned.

    5. Do the installation of your new car stereo’s mounting sleeve. A correctly installed sleeve is attached to the in-dash kit and car dash.

    6. Connect the wires. Usually, car stereos make use of the standard color system for wires so it will be easy to locate which wire should be attached to another. However, it is still necessary that you do careful matching. If possible, do not simply twist and tape the wires. Use wire connectors to avoid problems such as electrical fire or poor audio quality.

    7. Connect new stereo to the wire harness of the car. And then reconnect the battery correctly and tightly.

    8. Try out your new car stereo.

If stereo doesn’t work correctly go back and analyze each step you have performed so you can find where you went wrong.
